Aceon, also called Perindopril Erbumine, is the medication that belongs to a class of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (known as ACE) that are potent to treat uncontrolled high blood pressure and prevent possible heart attacks and strokes in patients with coronary artery disease. Additionally, the drug can be used for other purposes, not listed in the information leaflet.
Affecting the process of heart functioning and blood circulation in the body, Aceon produces a drastic impact on the whole organism. Thus, to benefit from the desirable action and avoid possible complications, once should follow the rules and recommendations for Aceon use given by the doctor. Consult your healthcare provider to get inevitable directions of the medication administration. Take the drug just as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not increase or decrease Aceon dose even if it seems ineffective. Ask your doctor for necessary adjustments. Your physician may change the dose according to the response of your organism and the necessity.
Each Aceon dose should be administered with a full glass of water with or without food. Much liquid should be consumed during Aceon treatment course. Since the medication affects not only heart, but also liver and kidney, frequent medical tests should be taken to check the functioning of these vital organs. Continue taking medication if you do not have symptoms of hypertension.
Take a missed dose when possible; though you'd better skip it in case the following scheduled one should be taken soon. Never increase or double Aceon dose to eliminate the risk of side effects appearance. Alcohol consumption may interact with the medication intake producing devastating complications.
Precautions and Contraindications
Talk to your doctor before Aceon treatment course. Inform him/her about all the health problems you have. Do not start the medication administration if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• Have hereditary angioedema;
• Are allergic to perindopril, other components of the drug or similar ACE inhibitors.
To make sure Aceon is safe for your health and to adjust the proper dose suiting the complication level of the condition and health state you have, tell your healthcare provider about the following disorders:
• Kidney or liver problems;
• Congestive heart failure;
• Connective tissue diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, scleroderma, lupus and others;
• Heart disorders, etc.
Aceon can also interact with other medications increasing the risk of side effects appearance, thus, tell your doctor about all the other prescription and OTC drugs, herbal supplements and vitamins you are taking. Pay special attention to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory treatments, potassium supplements, gold injections that are used to improve arthritis, lithium, diuretics and other pills.
Despite the fact the Aceon is completely safe if taken right, the drug misuse or overuse can cause serious complications, including high potassium, jaundice, swelling, reasonless weight gain, light-headedness, cold or flu symptoms, problems urinating, etc. Seek emergency medical help once you have got any of these symptoms or signs of severe allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing and swelling of the tongue, throat and face).
Call your doctor if common side effects, including back pain, cough, dizziness, headache and others do not disappear after a comparatively long time of Aceon intake.
