What is arimidex? Arimidex is nothing but a medication that helps in lowering the level of estrogen in the post menopausal women. This low level of estrogen is very much required in post menopausal women as few types of breast cancers require high level of estrogen to grow in the body. It is needless to say that cancer is more or less old age disease.
Arimidex is generally used to treat the breast cancer in old age women. Tamoxifen is the other medication that is used for the treatment of breast cancer. In few women the tumor in the breast doesn’t regress even after the use of tamoxifen. Such women are treated by the arimidex.
Anastrozole should not be used in pregnant women as this medication can harm the unborn baby. One must undergo pregnancy test before consuming arimidex. Arimidex should never be given to breast feeding mother. The person who is allergic to anastrozole should never use arimidex.
The person who has heart problems, circulations problems, severe liver disease, and history of stroke or complicated menopause should report it all to the doctor before consuming Anastrozole. This is very important as one need to consume arimidex for not less than 5 years.
Anastrozole will not be effective if consumed along with estrogen medication or tamoxifen. Hence the doctor should be informed about the consumption of tamoxifen or estrogen medication only then he can plan your treatment accordingly.
The persons who experience allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of lip, throat, face, or tongue, breathing difficulty while using the arimidex should report the same immediately to doctor. All these are the side effect of the Anastrozole. Hence the consumption of arimidex should be stopped immediately until advised by the doctor otherwise.
Few may experience weakness or numbness of one side of the body. Few may notice sudden pain in the head, problems in speech, balance or vision. All these are nothing but the possible side effect of the arimidex. Swollen glands, fracture of the bone, swelling in the hand and feet are more serious side effects of Anastrozole.
Depression, mood changes, sore throat, general weakness, pain in the joint, stiffness of the joint, hot flashes, bone pain, pain in the back, nausea etc are less severe side effects of Anastrozole.
