AUGMENTIN a broad-spectrum antibiotic, having 4000 mg amoxicillin and 250 mg clavulanate as principal constituents, is purely bactericidal in nature. The double-layered antibiotic is designed to for an extended release action as it, in the first stage immediately releases amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate, while in second stage small doses of amoxicillin are further released in the blood. This enhanced formula helps in combating, not only prevents bacteria to strike back, but also effective in treating dreaded S. pneumonia.
AUGMENTIN is an effective antibiotic to treat various diseased conditions caused by bacteria. These include:
• Lower respiratory tract infections, caused due to b-Lactamase, which produces strains of M. catarrhalis and H. influenzae.
• Otitis media occurs due to b-Lactamase, which produces strains of the M. catarrhalis and H. influenzae.
• Skin infections occurring due to b-Lactamase, and producing strains of E. coli, S. aureus, and Klebsiella spp.
• Urinary tract infections occur due to b-Lactamase, and producing strains of E. coli, Enterobacter spp and Klebsiella spp.
For taking the medicine with meals or without meals, it is necessary to adhere strictly to the instructions of your physician. However, for best results, the medicine should be administered with meals. Store the drug protected from heat and light in the original packing. It is important to continue taking the medicine for complete cycle of treatment, and to prevent the infection from re-occurring. Keep the medicine intake schedule tight, and never miss any dose.
In an event, where you miss a dose, take the dose immediately. However, if the time of first dose coincides with your next dose timings, then, you can very well get off with your next dose. It is harmful to take two doses at same time or even at half an hour’s gap.
Do not administer the medicine if you have a history of chronic allergy due to antibiotic penicillin such as, amoxicillin, ampicillin, or a cephalosporin antibiotic such as, Ceclor, Ceftin, Keflex, and Duricef.
If you had ever complained of shortness of breath or chest tightness, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, or, or a skin rash or hives, immediately consult your physician. Medicine intake should be strictly under the supervision of physician, and overdose or overmedication might result in drastic effects.
In case of sustained allergenic reactions, or any other questions related to medication, consult your doctor or the pharmacist.
The medicine has strong effects on old age patients, and it is therefore cautioned to regulate the drug intake after consulting the physician.
The drug has tendency to counter the affect of birth control pills, therefore, it is advised that women under supervision of the drug should use other methods of birth control.
