Caduet is a combined medical product which is used for the treatment of a wide range of the cardiovascular diseases. This drug includes two active components, i.e. amlodipine and atorvastatin.
Amlodipine provides the antianginal and hypotensive action. The mechanism of the hypotensive action is conditioned by the direct relaxed effect to the smooth muscles of the vessels. The reduction of ischemia of myocardium occurs by means of the dilation of the coronary and peripheral arteries. It quickly provides the therapeutic effect in about 2 hours after the use.
Atorvastatin reduces the concentration of cholesterol by means of the reduction of the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. It successfully reduces a risk of the development of ischemic complications and relapses connected with the ischemic affections.
The combination of these two medications allows to gain a complex effect to the cardiovascular system, and so the efficiency of therapy is increased and the achieved effect is kept longer.
Caduet is prescribed patients for arterial hypertension of the middle and severe form, ischemic heart disease, fatal or non-fatal myocardial infarction, and strokes. Oftentimes, this drug is prescribed patients with initial symptoms of the cardiovascular diseases who have not got the medicated treatment.
The tablets of Caduet should be taken orally irrespective of the food intake at any time, one tablet a day. The most effective dose is selected individually taking into account the level of the disease severity, general health condition of the patient and tolerance of the active components of the drug.
The drug is recommended for the use in combination with non-medicated therapy – diets, physical exercises, refusal from smoking, and it is also desirable to lose weight.
- As this drug consists of two active components the patient should study the sensitivity to them before the treatment and if there is an allergic reaction, the treatment must be terminated.
- The use of this drug is not recommended during active diseases of liver.
- Caduet is not recommended for the use during pregnancy, and also in the period of lactation. If the treatment is needed, it is necessary to consult a doctor and get to know all risks.
- It is necessary to avoid a sudden termination of the drug because of the risk of the worsening of the course of stenocardia. It is needed to gradually reduce the daily dose up to the complete refusal from the medication.
