Cleocin (Clindamycin)
Description
Clindamycin is the active principle present in the brand name cleocin. Clindamycin is commonly used antibiotic to fight against the more serious bacteria. Clindamycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic.
Recommendations
Persons who are allergic to clindamycin should not use the same. Clindamycin should never be used with erythromycin. The person who has liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, eczema, skin allergy or colitis should inform the doctor if prescribed for clindamycin.
Few antibiotics can result in diarrhoea which is generally due to new infection. If one experience watery or bloody diarrhoea, he or she should stop the clindamycin at once and call the doctor for help. While on clindamycin treatment one should regularly test the stools, liver function and kidney function. If you are to get ready for surgery, the doctor will ask you to stop the consumption of clidamycin.
The clindamycin should be consumed as long as prescribed. One should not stop the medication before the prescribed date if the symptoms of the infection disappear. Clindamycin can not cure viral infections such as common flu or cold.
Clindamycin should be consumed with water [full glass] to get away from throat irritation. The bottle should be shaked well before use. The dosage should be measured using special measuring spoon and don’t depend on ordinary spoon. Try to consume the missed dose as early as you remember. By the time you remember, if it is the time for next dose, just skin the missed dose and go in for the next dose.

Precautions
One has to be aware of the possible side effects of clindamycin which are discussed below. Bloody or watery diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin, less urination, flu like symptoms, body aches, fever, chills, sore in the mouth or throat, numbness, muscle weakness, skin rash,unsusual bleeding, bruising, red or purple pin point spot under the skin, peeling of skin, change in bowel habits, stomach pain, vomiting etc are the possible side effects of clindamycn. Those who experience one or more should report about it to the doctor for the further advice.
