Combigan is the brand name for the generic drug Brimonidine and timolol ophthalmic. This drug is used to reduce the pressure in the eye. Brimonidine and Timolol has that property to reduce the pressure in the eye. Patients who are suffering from glaucoma and high pressure in the eyes would be benefited with the use of this medicine. The strength of Combigan is 2 mg/mL brimonidine tartrate and 5 mg/mL timolol. Combigan is available in 5 mL, 10 mL, and 15 mL volume. It is better to store the solution away from light.
Combigan is applied in the affected eye twice a day. It is better that each dose is 12 hours apart. If some other solution is used in the eye then it is better to use them atleast 5 minutes apart. It is better to follow the directions given by your doctor regarding the use of Combigan. Do not use the medication while wearing contact lenses. Do not wear your contact lenses within 15 minutes of using this medication as it might be absorbed by the contact lenses. Make sure the the color of the Combigan solution is not changed before you use it. Use the prescribed doses of Combigan.
There are some side effects that might occur in patients who are using Combigan. Side effects like chest pain, cold hands and feet, diarrhea, nausea, confusion, hallucinations, anxiety, memory loss and nervousness are some of the side effects of Timolol that is found in Combigan. Allergic reactions like rashes might also occur. Respiratory problems like dyspnea, nasal congestion might also occur. Decreased libido might also occur in some patients.
Patients who are using MAO inhibitors like Azilect, Eldepryl, Marplan, Nardil, Emsam, and Parnate should not use Combigan. If you have problems in your heart or have severe pulmonary diseases then it is better to stay away from Combigan. Dosage adjustments might be needed if the patient is having diabetes, overactive thyroid, allergies, muscle disorders, depression and low blood pressure.
