Losartan is a generic name for Cozaar. It is mainly used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is manufactured to act as an angiotensin-2 receptor antagonist that hinders the flow of angiotensin-2 in a personís body. This action calms the blood vessels down. This action also aids the kidney in getting rid of the excess sodium and fluids inside of a body.
It is not recommended for Losartan to be used if a person experiences any adverse reactions or allergies because of any ingredient that is present in this medicine. It is also not advisable for pregnant women to take in or for children with kidney functions that are severely diminished. Also, the child must be over 6 years of age if he/she plans to start taking this medication.
There are a few medical conditions which may have an adverse effect or reaction with this medicine. If a woman is planning to start a new family or is in the stages of breast-feeding then she should consult her health care provider about this and seek advice. The same thing goes for people who are allergic to some medicines, ingredients, or any particular type of food. If a person has existing medical conditions such as kidney, liver, or blood electrolyte irregularities, congestive heart failure, or has low fluid volume then he/she should be well-advised before taking this medication. People who are taking other medicines, herbal preparations, or some dietary supplement should also talk to their doctor or health care provider regarding these other medications and the possible interaction or conflicts between these medications and Losartan.
How to use

People with high blood pressure and diabetes should continue to take their medications for these conditions. They should also seek advice from their own doctors with regards to Losartanís effects on their existing medications.
