Lamivudine is the generic name of the medicine whose brand name is Epivir. Epivir belongs to the group of chemicals called as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
Epivir is available as tablet as well as liquid form. Epivir needs to be consumed orally. Epivir needs to be consumed twice a day. The medication should be consumed as per the direction of the doctor. In case of any doubt, the doctor should be requested to explain the details of the medicine and its usage. The dosage of epivir should be strictly as prescribed by the doctor.
Epivir is used for the treatment of acquired immuno deficiency syndrome popularly known as AIDS. Epivir may not offer complete cure from AIDS but can very well arrest the spread of the virus infection. The epivir can also be used for the treatment of hepatitis B virus infection.
Epivir can also be used on the people healthcare workers and others persons who are exposed to the HIV infection because of the close proximity to the infected persons. These persons are likely to be infected accidentally by coming in to contact with contaminated tissue, blood, or any other body fluid.
The doctors need to be informed if you are allergic to epivir. The doctor should be informed about the other medications that you are consuming either prescribed by the doctor or by yourself. If you are consuming trimethoprim or sulfamethoxazole and the same should be informed to the doctor. The doctor has to be intimated in case you had or have kidney disease, pancrease disease or hepatitis B. if you plan to become pregnant or pregnant already or breast feeding mother inform the same to the doctor at once. The breast feeding mother should never consume epivir.
There are few possible side effects of the epivir which are listed below. They are chills, fatigue, headache, diarrhea,nausea,vomiting, dizziness, depression, loss of appetite, troubled sleep, stuffy nose, cough etc. in one experience any one or more of the below mentioned symptoms, he or she should consult the doctor and follow his suggestions without any deviation
if any one experience nausea, muscle pain, numbness, tingling, burning in fingers, burning in toes, rash, stomach ache and vomiting [in children] and the same should be immediately reported to the doctor as these are very dangerous warning symptoms.
