Exelon is a prescription drug that is used to treat mild to moderate cases of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other related forms of dementia. The generic name for Exelon is rivastigmine tartrate. It should be emphasized that this medication is not for older individuals who are just becoming forgetful due to the normal aging process. A doctor can help you diagnose whether you or your loved one actually has Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease and would benefit from taking Exelon.
Exelon can help improve malfunctions of the executive function, attention span, communication, reasoning, and memory retrieval for individuals who have these forms of dementia. It can also help slow down the progression of these diseases. This makes it easier for the patient to cope with these diseases and prepare for the future.
Exelon also makes it easier on families too as they can spend more quality time with their loved ones and help them prepare for the future. In this regard, Exelon is highly touted by doctors and others familiar with these types of disease.
In clinical trials using Exelon on actual patients who have Alzheimer's disease, the most effective and safe dosage of Exelon was found to be six to twelve milligrams per day. However, this dosage is usually broken up into two parts, with half of the Exelon taken in the morning and the other half of the Exelon dosage taken in the evening before bedtime.
In most of the individuals tested, twelve milligrams per day was more effective than six milligrams and still a safe dosage of Exelon.
It is recommended by most doctors that the patient start out taking a smaller dosage to determine if they can tolerate the medication well. Usually, this initial test is 1.5 milligrams twice a day for two weeks. If all goes well, the dosage is usually then increased to three milligrams twice a day for two additional weeks and then increased again to a maximum dosage of twelve milligrams a day.
Exelon is also available as an Exelon patch. This patch is administered once per day and delivers the Exelon on a continuous basis 24 hours a day. The patch delivers 9.5 milligrams of Exelon in the 24 hour period. However, like the oral form of Exelon, most doctors recommend starting with a lower dosage of Exelon in the patch form to make sure the patient can tolerate the medication with no severe side effects. This includes negative reactions on the skin such general itchiness, rashes, hives, and redness.
Like all pharmaceuticals, most people do not have significant side effects from taking Exelon. However, a few individuals do experience side effects from Exelon. These side effects include stomach issues such as upset stomach, vomiting, general abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. For this reason, it is important to tell your doctor if you have ulcers or other stomach issues if they are recommending you take Exelon.
If a person vomits due to taking Exelon, the vomit may resemble coffee grounds and may be bloody in appearance as well.
A person taking Exelon may have changes in their stools in that they become blacker than normal or red due to internal bleeding. Another potential side effect is feeling light headed or like you're about to faint. Very rarely, inviduals taking Excelon may experience chest pains. Excelon can also cause a person to feel confused, agitated, or extremely afraid. People taking Exelon may also feel sleepy so it is best not to drive while taking it or operate any type of heavy machinery. Some people taking Exelon experience tremors, shakiness, or other uncontrollable body movements.
This can also lead to difficulties in sleeping. However, it must again be emphasized the vast majority of patients do not experience these side effects.
You can buy Exelon online for about forty to sixty percent the price than what you can expect to pay at a traditional brick and mortar pharmacy. Buying online has other great benefits as well. The medicine is shipped directly to you without you having to make a special trip to a pharmacy.
This is far more convenient, especially for individuals who are home bound, have trouble driving, or are fully or partially disabled. Buying Exelon online is also a much more private than standing in line at your local pharmacy and having the pharmacist call out your name and sometimes even talk with you about the medication within earshot of other people!
