Flexeril is the brand name for the generic drug cyclobenzaprine. The generic drug is also sold in brand names like Fexmid and Amrix. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant and it very useful as a pain reliever. This medicine blocks the pain sensations that are sent to the brain so that the patient does not sense the pain. Flexeril is available in strengths of 5 mg and 10 mg. The 5 mg tablet is available in carton of 30 tablets with each strip having 6 tablets. The 10 mg tablet is available in bottles of 100 with each tablet sealed separately.
The recommended dosage is 5 mg per dose and up to 3 doses per day. The individual dose can be increased to 10 mg depending upon the response of the patient to the medicine. Flexeril should not be taken for a longer period i.e., for more than 3 weeks. In most of the cases there is no need for such prolonged treatment. For elderly patients and for those who have disabilities the dosage can be reduced. Always consult your physician for the recommended dosage that relates to your muscle condition. Take the table in full with water. Do not chew or crush the tablet if you are taking an extended release tablet as the whole purpose will be spoilt.
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms of overdose like vomiting, chest pain, seizure, slurred speech, drowsiness, hallucinations, and nausea. Your actions and reactions might be slow when you are under the influence of Flexeril. Hence it is better to avoid work that involves alertness when you take Flexeril. Avoid alcohol when you take Flexeril. If you are already taking medicines for cold, allergy, sleepiness, depression, and anxiety then you have to consult your doctor before you take Flexeril as this medicine might aggravate the condition further.
Some of the common side effects of taking Flexeril are sudden numbness, confusion, fatigue, stomach pain, nausea, dry mouth, diarrhea, bleeding, light headed feeling, blurred vision and drowsiness.
