Hydrocortisone Cream
Description
Hydrocortisone cream is the generic name and it is sold in brand names like Anusol Hc, Cortaid, Hydrocortisone, Locoid, Cortate, Novo-hydrocort, Emo-Cort, and so on. The brand names of hydrocortisone cream differ in US, Canada and other parts of the world. Usually it is sold in strengths of 1.0% and 2.5%. It is sold in 1 oz tubes, 30 g tubes, and 1 Lb jars. Hydrocortisone cream is used in the treatment of itching and inflammation of the skin in all areas of your body. It is a very good anti-inflammatory.
Recommendations
Make sure that the cream is applied only to the areas that are infected and it should not applied to your eyes, mouth, lips, groin etc. consult your physician properly about the areas on which it should be applied. Before you apply the hydrocortisone cream wash your hands and the infected areas properly with soap free water and dry that area with a clean towel. Then apply the hydrocortisone cream as thin filmy layer on the infected area. Apply the hydrocortisone cream as directed by your physician. Usually it is recommended to use the hydrocortisone cream two to three times daily. However the dosage might differ depending on the severity of the skin condition. Follow the dosages recommended by the doctor.
Precautions
Applying the hydrocortisone cream in other areas other than the infected ones might cause burning sensations and irritations. If you have any cuts or bruises on your skin, do not use the cream on those areas. If you accidentally applied on these areas, wash them off with water. do not apply the cream in your groin and underarms unless you are directed to do so by your physician.
Some of the side effects of using hydrocortisone cream might be irritation, burning sensation, increased urination, tiredness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat and blurred vision. If you experience any of these side effects consult your doctor immediately for any dosage changes. If you are using the hydrocortisone cream for a prolonged time you might experience these side effects.
