Hytrin (Terazosin)

Description

Hytrin represents a blocker of peripheral postsynaptic a1-adrenergic receptors. a1-adrenoceptor blocks prostate and bladder neck smooth muscle , helping to normalize urination in those suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia. In cause of dilation of arterioles and venules, reduces peripheral vascular resistance and venous return to the heart, thereby reducing blood pressure.

The hypotensive action starts after 15 minutes after ingestion (a single dose is taken into account). The duration of the antihypertensive effect is equal to 24 hours. The maximum effect in a single dose is achieved within 2-3 hours. Maximum hypotensive effect is achieved after 6-8 weeks of therapy. With prolonged use of blood pressure reduction, as a rule, the development of reflex tachycardia doesn’t occur. The preparation promotes the normalization of lipid metabolism: it reduces cholesterol, triglycerides and lipoproteins of low and very low density levels, while increasing the amount of high density lipoproteins. The systematic use of medication marked regression of left ventricular hypertrophy.
