To date, tuberculosis is one of the most common diseases in the world, which kills about 4 million people every year. Tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium pathogen, which leads to inflammatory lesions in certain organs, most commonly in the lungs.
To date, all issues, relating to both, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis, are considered to be highly relevant. The reason is that the disease becomes popular more and more with every year. Moreover, there are even some forms of this disease, which are not treated by conventional therapy.
The mention of tuberculosis often causes people to fear, as many consider it to be a deadly disease. Despite the fact that several million people die from tuberculosis each year, to date, it is treated quite successfully with generic Isoniazid (brand Laniazid).
Isoniazid is a fundamental first-line and the best anti-tuberculosis drug. It is an integral part of any course of treatment (except in cases of resistance to isoniazid). The drug is inexpensive, easily synthesized, widely available, acts exclusively on mycobacteria and well tolerated (side effects appear only in 5% of cases).
Isoniazid: form, indications, mechanism of action
Patients can find and buy this medication in solution for intravenous or intramuscular administration and tablets. Itís all depends on you and prescription of your doctor.
Itís a great anti-tuberculosis drug, which has bactericidal effect, inhibits the synthesis of mycolic acids, which is an essential component of the cell wall of mycobacteria. Isoniazid is especially active against fast-growing microorganisms.
Isoniazid is used for the treatment of all forms and locations of active tuberculosis in adults and children, it is most effective when fresh, sharp running processes.
As a rule, the drug is administered in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. At mixed infection Isoniazid should be taken simultaneously with other antibiotics, sulfonamides, fluoroquinolones.
Isoniazid dose prescription
The dose is determined individually depending on the nature and form of the disease.
Adults and adolescents - 300mg once a day or 15mg 2-3 times a week (as defined by therapy schema), children - 10-20mg once a day or 20-40mg 2-3 times per week.
Intravenous course of Isoniazid in adults and adolescents is prescribed in 5mg/kg once a day or 15mg/kg 2-3 times a week, children - 10-20mg/kg once a day or 20-40mg/kg 2-3 times a week.
Duration of treatment is determined individually.
Adult maximum daily dose is 300mg.
How to avoid Isoniazid contraindications?
Read carefully instruction and you will be able to avoid complications during and after treatment with this medication.
Precautions to the drug include: hypersensitivity, drug-induced hepatitis and hepatic failure (compared to previous treatment with Isoniazid), sever liver disease. People, suffering alcoholism, liver and kidney failure, seizures, pregnancy, heart failure, angina, hypertension, hypothyroidism - should take the pill with caution.
This drug has relatively low toxicity, side effects in the treatment with Isoniazid are rare. There are, basically, the neurotoxic effects, associated with metabolic disorders of vitamin B. The defeat of the peripheral nervous system is manifested paresthesias, decreased sensitivity, and sometimes reduced muscle strength. Due to the toxic effects on the central nervous system can be headaches, sleep disorders, memory loss. For prevention of neurotoxic complications patients are prescribed courses of vitamins B1 and B6.
