The best medicine used for Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis is Lodine. The active principle in this medicine is Etodolac. Lodine is a Non-steroidal ant-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which is mostly used for the treatment of inflammation and pain. . These drugs are used for the management of fever, mild to moderate pain, and inflammation. By reducing the level of prostaglandins, this drug helps in alleviating pain and inflammation associated with fever. The FDA approved this drug since 1991. These are available as capsules of 200 and 300 mg and tablets of 400 and 500 mg. This drug should be stored in the temperature range of 15-30°C. Apart from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, Lodine is mainly used in the treatment of menstrual cramps, bursitis, tendinitis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The recommended dosage for adults is 200-400 mg every 6-8 hours.
Lodine tablets are manufactured for sustained release of drug. Hence it can be used to get prolonged pain relief even if you take only one tablet per day. We should keep in mind that this tablet should be swallowed as a whole to act perfectly in the system. They should preferably be taken with food.
The main side-effects of Lodine include visual disturbances, drowsiness and dizziness. Hence it is advisable not to drive your car or any other machinery. You should not exceed the dosage prescribed your health-care provider as he advise you the minimum dosage for maximum effect in order to reduce the side effects discussed below. The other side-effects of Lodine include stomach ulcer or perforation of intestinal lining, and abdominal pain in elderly patients. There is every possibility of heart attacks and stroke, if you’re already having high blood pressure or diabetes. Hence care should be advocated while prescribing medications to these kind of patients. Apart from this, patients suffering from kidney or liver disease, your kidney and liver function should be assessed on regular intervals during treatment with this medicine.
Sometimes there is every possibility of developing skin rash or sores inside your mouth. In this condition, you consult your physician immediately to contain these side effects. It should not be used in the patients having allergy to Aspirin. This medicine is not recommended for children, pregnant women and breast-feeding women.
