Mobic is the brand name for the generic drug meloxicam. This medicine comes under the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The hormones that cause pain in the body are controlled by taking this medication. Apart from this purpose it might be taken for other purposes too for which you have to consult your doctor. This medication is available in the form of tablets and oral suspension. The tablets of Mobic come in strengths of 7.5 mg and 15 mg. The oral suspension comes in strengths of 7.5 mg in 5 mL. Tablets are available in bottles of 100 and oral suspension comes in bottles of 100 mL.
For treating osteoarthritis, the recommended dosage is 7.5 mg once daily. In some cases the dosage may be increased to 15 mg per day. The same dosage is followed in treating Rheumatoid arthritis too. For treating children the oral suspension is recommended as you can measure the dosages accurately. The recommended oral dosage is 0.125 mg per kg of weight of the children and this can be to a maximum of 7.5 mg per day. Additional dosage of 0.125 mg per kg can be considered if the previous dosage is not effective. It is recommended that you keep the tablets in a cool and dry place. Better store them at not more than 25 deg C.
Taking Mobic might increase your risk of heart problems and circulation problems. Hence it is not recommended to use this medication if you had a heart bypass surgery. Some patients might get gastrointestinal side effects like bleeding and perforation which might be fatal. Do contact your doctor immediately if you experience shortness of breath, problem speaking, chest pain, vision problems, and weakness. Patients who are already having kidney problems, liver disease, stomach ulcers, asthma, and heart ailments should inform their doctor prior to taking this medicine. Mobic might also affect your baby if you are pregnant. Do inform your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this medicine. Do not breast feed your baby without informing your doctor. This medicine should not be given to children below the age of 2 years. Side effects like chest pain, black bloody stools, fever, and sore throat, numbness, less urine, stomach pain and loss of appetite might occur upon taking this medicine.
