The Motilium tablets contain 10 mg of domperidone. This medication is used as a anti-vertigo and anti-emetics medicine. This medication is used for gastric emptying, controlling vomiting and nausea. It is used in patients who are undergoing radiation therapy as an anti-emetic. With the help of this medication the upper gastro-intestinal tract can be examined so that radiation therapy can be done on the patient.
In acute conditions of vomiting, nausea, and hiccup in adults the recommended dosage is two tablets of Motilium so that you take 20 mg of domperidone. It is recommended that you take the medication before your food at least 15 to 20 minutes before food. You can take this medication 3 or 4 times a day. If needed, you can take this medication before you go to sleep in the night. For children who are having acute nausea, vomiting or hiccups the recommended dosage is one tablet of Motilium, i.e. 10 mg of domperidone. As in the case of adults the children should also take this medication before having their food and 15 to 20 minutes before they have their food. You can give this medication 3 to 4 times a day for children too. For children below the age of 5 suspension of Motilium is available.
Patients who are more sensitive to domperidone should not be given the medication. If the patient suffers from gastro-intestinal problems like hemorrhage in gastro-intestine or having perforations then Motilium should be given to them. Patients having pituitary tumor which releases prolactin should be given Motilium. However the effects of using this medication in women who are pregnant and lactating mothers is not still established. Hence it is better to avoid this medication in such cases or consult your healthcare professional before you take this medication.
Patients who are suffering from renal insufficiency should take this medication with care from the advice of the healthcare professional. Usually one or two dose of this medication is given for such patients. It is better to review the condition of such patients and alter the dosage if needed.
