Neggram - a drug, the main active ingredient of which is nalidixic acid. Neggram - antimicrobial agent, belonging to the pharmacological group of quinolones / fluoroquinolones. This medication is a synthetic antibacterial drug, effective against infections, caused by gram-negative microorganisms. Especially effective for urinary tract infections, caused by gram-negative organisms and infections of the intestinal tract, caused by salmonella and dysentery bacillus.
Nowadays, when Neggram and Nalidixic acid is available for sale without prescription, we can find it in forms of tablets and capsules. Each Neggram tablet contains about 500 milligrams of nalidixic acid.
How does Neggram work?
Neggram - a drug with anti-bacterial action, it has the ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA, since it inhibits the polymerization. Neggram exhibits effectiveness against Gram-negative microorganisms such as: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Shigella spp., Pneumobaccillus. Neggram exhibits bactericidal (kills bacteria) or bacteriostatic (slowing the growth, proliferation of microbes) action (depending on how sensitive microorganism to the drug is, as well as on the concentration of the drug). Neggram is effective against susceptible to the strains of microorganisms resistant to sulfonamides and antibiotics. Moreover, nalidixic acid exhibits activity against anaerobes and Gram-positive microorganisms (microbes, which are not needed for the existence of oxygen). During therapy may develop resistance (stability) of microorganisms to the drug.
Indications and contraindications for admission of Neggram
In clinical practice this medication is shown to treat:
* infections of the gastrointestinal tract and other cholecystitis caused by microorganisms susceptible to the drug
* application of Neggram is effective in the prevention of infections during surgery on the ureters, kidneys and bladder.
Instructions of nalidixic acid reported that the drug should not be taken if you are sensitive to it, have problems with liver and kidney, epilepsy, cerebral atherosclerosis (severe), in case of pregnancy, pediatric patients (two years), deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. In all other cases, the drug is safe and effective.
What are the dosage, precautions and side effects of Neggram?
This medication is prescribed inside in 1g - 4 times a day for 7 days. During the more prolonged treatment, the dose can be reduced to 0.5g - 4 times per day. Children - initial dose of 60mg/kg 3-4 hours, supporting dose - 30mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses.
Reviews of Neggram indicate that the use of this drug may have some undesirable side effects, manifested in the form of:
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (diarrhea), stomachalgia, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, cholestasis;
- drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, and color vision, diplopia, intracranial hypertension, dysphoria, myalgia;
- allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, angioedema).
Long time intake of Neggram can lead to: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, photosensitivity, convulsions.
Deciding to treat with Neggram by yourself, be sure to consult with the doctor and account all precautions and contraindications. Thus, during the treatment, carried out with the help of the drug Neggram, there may be false positive reaction in the analysis of urine for sugar. The drug should be administered only by attending physician. Neggram and indirect anticoagulants should not be given to a patient at one time. The drug may have depressant effects on the central nervous system, especially if used in conjunction with ethanol (alcohol), or other drugs that depress the central nervous system.
