Patanol is the brand name for the generic drug olopatadine hydrochloride. This ophthalmic solution is used in the treatment of symptoms that are caused in the eye due to allergies. Watery eyes, itching of eyes, inflammation, and redness in eyes are treated with Patanol. This drug is also available in other brands like Pataday. Patanol is available in 5 mL drop-tainer dispenser.
It is recommended to apply one drop in each affected eye. You can apply two times a day. The recommended interval between each application can be 6 to 8 hours.
Do not apply Patanol while you are wearing contact lenses. After applying Patanol you have to wait for at least 10 minutes before wearing your contact lenses again. When you are using the dropper make sure it does not touch any surface. If the ophthalmic solution has changed color or has any particles in it, do not use it. If you experience severe redness, swelling, crusting, stinging or irritation, contact your doctor immediately. Patanol 0.1% solution is for topical use only and not for oral or injection. Headache is one of the common side effects experienced by people who apply Patanol. Other side effects like burning sensation, blurred vision, nausea, dry eye, taste perversion, cold syndrome and itching are also experienced by some people using Patanol. It is not sure whether topical ocular administration of Patanol will affect the breast milk in nursing mothers. The effect of Patanol in unborn baby is not known.
