The arsenal of Gastroenterology has a large number of highly effective drugs, including and enzyme preparations. However, the drug Pepfiz (Ranbaxy, India) is characterized by its versatility in the treatment of a huge variety of diseases, which is provided by extremely useful combination of active ingredients.
Pepfiz and its ingredients
The composition of this medication is natural and thatís why, it is safe for any kind of person, not leaving side effects and allergies.
Papain - a proteolytic enzyme from the juice of unripe papaya, hydrolyzing polypeptides (proteins), amides and esters, especially with leucine and glycine. Mushroom diastase (alpha-amylase) cleaves polysaccharides (starch, glycogen) into simple disaccharides (maltose and maltotriose). The enzymes of plant and fungal origin, as a part of Pepfiz, have a number of advantages over the enzymes of animal origin.
Patients should pay attention to the form of the drug - a tablet, when dissolved in water, becomes a nice drink of orange flavor. This is the first enzyme preparation, which is taken in liquid form. Hence, the drug is easy and convenient to use for children and patients with impaired swallowing of hard ingredients and other patients, who are forced to stay in bed for extended period of time.
Indications for Pepfiz use
- Excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the digestive tract: the symptoms of flatulence (bloating and fullness in the epigastrium), aerophagia, dyspepsia;
- Intestinal colic in newborns and infants;
- Bloating after surgery;
- Preparation for diagnostic studies of the abdomen and pelvis (ultrasound, X-rays, etc.);
- Detergents poisoning (including surfactants, which is the basis of detergent);
- Chronic pancreatitis;
- Liver disease;
- A syndrome of non-ulcer dyspepsia;
- The feeling of fullness or bloating due to unusual food, overeating, abuse of ethanol, coffee, nicotine;
Pepfiz mechanism of action in various diseases
The most common use of Pepfiz is noticeable in pancreatitis treatment therapy. Being a "non-enveloped" enzyme medication, Pepfiz - ideal for reducing pain. Furthermore, the drug can be used in acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis of expressed exacerbation.
Pepfiz has also most important feature - the ability to use it for, so-called, reactive pancreatitis, developing as a result of erosive and ulcerative lesions of gastroduodenal zone.
An important role in reducing the symptoms of dyspepsia plays Pepfiz antacid effect, since one of the major pathogenetic factors of functional dyspepsia is hypersecretion of hydrochloric acid.
Due to the rapidity of action and safety of the drug, it definitely needs to find its place in any medicine chest of even healthy people, which take unusual, hearty food and alcohol. In these situations the drug easier reduces discomfort and hangover effects.
Dosage recommendations for Pepfiz
One tablet is taken inside 2 or 3 times/day after meals. The tablet is dissolved in half glass of water (about 130 mL). The content should be drunk after the dissolution of the tablet.
In preparation for X-ray study, and ultrasound of the abdomen, patients are taken 1-2 tablets in the morning and evening for 1-2 days before the study.
Pepfiz precautions and side effects
Despite the facts that Pepfiz is quite safe drug and is available without prescription, it is better to consult a doctor before its use, or at least, read attentively medical instruction. Thus, pay attention, that this remedy has contraindications and small side effects.
- Hypersensitivity to the drug, intestinal obstruction.
- The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation.
* Side effects
Pepfiz is free of side effects. This tasty orange solution can cause only allergic reactions in people, who have allergy to oranges. In all other cases itís well tolerated by everybody!
