Prinivil (Lisinopril) is used for the treatment of congestive heart failure and hypertension. Moreover, Prinivil can also improve survival rate after a severe heart attack. Prinivil and it is part of a group called ACE inhibitors. The drug can be found on the market under the name of Zestril, it is administered orally and it comes in form of tablets of 5, 10 and 20 miligrams.

Patients who are on treatment with Prinivil must constantly monitor their blood pressure, especially if they use the drug along with diuretics.
On the other hand, patients who suffer from renal impairment must monitor their creatinine clearance, and their dosage will be adjusted based on the results. If the creatinine clearance is over 30 ml/min, then the patients must not exceed 10mg of Prinivil a day.
When Prinivil is used in heart failure, the starting dose is 5 mg per day. Afterwards, the patient's blood pressure is carefully monitored and the dose may be adjusted - the general effective dose is between 5 and 20mg a day, as one dose.

Warnings And Precautions

The effects of Prinivil might be significantly reduced of you take aspirin or other NSAIDS, like ibuprofen or naproxen. These drugs may interfere with the efficiency of the drug in the long run.
Pregnant and nursing mothers must avoid using Prinivil at all costs, as many fetuses have died as a following of Prinivil being administered during pregnancy.
Potential Side Effects
Like most medications, Prinivil can give some side effects that range from mild to severe. When you experience one or more adverse reactions, it is essential to contact your doctor immediately and let him know about your symptom(s). Dizziness is a common symptom that usually appears after the first several doses, which cause a drop in the blood pressure.
