Generic - Fluoxetine

Prozac is most widely prescribed Antidepressant that is used all over the world for the treatment of depression, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorders), bulimia and severe symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Prozac is also used for the treatment of panic attacks, obesity and alcoholism.
Initially Prozac was used for treatment of depression and given approved only in Belgium in the year of 1986 and in United States in the year 1987. Later on, it has been approved and used more than 90 countries and also it is prescribed by more than 40 million people across the world.
How to use
Obsessive-compulsive disorder and agoraphobia are the unwanted thoughts which attack human. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a thought which won’t go away. Similarly, agoraphobia is yet another unwanted thought which makes a person to feel uncomfortable or severe fear when they are being in public crowds or places, meetings etc. Hence, for the maximum relief of these types of thoughts, doctor’s recommends for the usage of Prozac.
The trials of this Prozac tablet has been given with more than 11.000 people and given its best results. Prozac is used for treatment of depression which includes changes in appetite, increase in fatigue, difficulty in concentration, suicidal thoughts etc. Possible side effects may occur while treatment of Prozac. Vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, changes in sexual function etc are the possible side effects of this Prozac.

These have to be consulted with doctor during the initial stage itself. The average treatment time for this Prozac is approximately six weeks. Over dose is not permitted. 20mg of Prozac can be taken in a day and maximum 80mg/per day is recommended and not more than that. For some people, the dosage mg/day exceeds more than the normal which are considered as special cases and doctor’s advice have to be taken for such activity.
Before the intake of Prozac one should inform his/her health care provider about any allergies. Besides, before usage a patient should make sure he/she informed the doctor about the following health conditions:
• History of depression, suicidal thoughts/attempts;
• History of manic-depressive/bipolar disorder;
• Stomach ulcers;
• Liver problems, etc.
While taking Prozac it’s not recommended to operate machinery and drive as the drug may make you feel dizzy. Besides, it’s advisable to avoid alcohol consumption. Prozac shouldn’t be taken by pregnancy only unless the doctor tells you to use it.
There are drugs that may interact with the use of Prozac and they include the following:
• Medications removed from the body by liver enzymes (carbamazepine), antiarrhytmics (flecainide), tricyclic antidepressants, blood thinners (warfarin), NSAIDs (ibuprofen), other meds that cause bruising and bleeding;
• MAO inhibitors (methylene blue, phenelzine, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, rasagiline);
• Aspirin as it may increase the risk of bleeding. But according to your condition you doctor may prescribe you a small dose;
• Medications that increase serotonin;
• Drugs that cause sleepiness or anxiety, drowsiness, narcotic pain relievers, antihistamines and muscle relaxants.
Prozac should be stored at a room temperature and kept away from moisture and light. Also keep it out of children’s and pets’ reach. Never store it in a bathroom.
If the medication has expired and you no longer need it, it should be properly discarded. It is not allowed to pour it into the drain or flush the pills down the toilet. To get detailed information about correct disposal you need to consult either a pharmacist or a waste disposal company.
Each pill contains 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg of the active ingredient – fluoxetine. Besides, there are also such inactive components as gelatin, starch, silicon, iron oxide, titanium dioxide and others.
