Quibron-t represents the class of bronchodilators medications, the use of which enables to decrease bronchi smooth muscles contraction. The drugís effect allows eliminating bronchial spasms, stimulates blood circulation in the vessels of the heart and facilitates the supply of oxygen in the respiratory system. The preparation is prescribed to deal with bronchospasms, treat bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and a range of other ailments closely interconnected with respiratory organs treatment.
Structure and Composition
The drug is available in several dosage forms: capsules, pills and rectal suppositories of prolonged action. A single pill of the original drug typically comes with 0,1 - 0.25 mg of theophylline and 0.125 or 0.5g of active substance in capsules. Rectal suppositories of 0.2g are offered in 10-pieces packs. However, the dosage of all the widely-spread forms may vary depending on the manufacturer and the year of manufacture.
The pharmacological action
Quibron-t is designed to relax the muscles of the bronchi; the drugís scope of action allows to clasify it as vasodilator. Furthermore, the active ingredient normalizes the respiratory function, relieves pain in the diaphragm and enhances the oxygen ventilation. A regular application of the active substance has a positive impact on the entire respiratory system and significantly cuts down the risk of adverse allergic reactions (in the event of emergence of these reactions, it makes them less prononunced). In addition, Quibron-t provides a strong diuretic effect. It activates the coronary circulation, reducing the vascular tone of the heart, kidney and brain. A long-term treatment course allows expansion of the biliary tract, it normalizes microcirculation and makes red blood cells more resistant to deformation. The therapeutic effect of the drug can be maintained within 48 hours.
Indications for use
According to the annotation, the medication is appointed in cases where elimination of bronchospasm of different etiology is required; in addition, it is prescribed in treatment and prevention of attacks of shortness of breath in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema, chronic bronchitis, etc.). Furthermore, the use of theophylline efficiently when the following diseases: bronchial asthma (systemic treatment and prevention of attacks); pulmonary heart; respiratory disorders of central origin; pulmonary hypertension; sleep apnea; respiratory disorders by type of Cheyne-Stokes; migraine and cerebrovascular accidents
Quibron-t in the form of tablets and capsules is administered in the dosage of 300mg on a daily basis, the reception is split into 2-3 intakes. An increase in the dosage up to 500mg is possible, in case of insufficient therapeutic action; however, the decision on increase should be made by treating doctor (in this case the drug is administered twice a day). Those patients whose body weight is less than 60 should take 100 mg of the drug twice during the day. A more comprehensive effect can be achieved observed with the introduction of drugs into the rectum, for these purposes suppositories: the cooled candle is introduced in the rectum in the lying position. Theophylline-based medications are used rectally, 2-4 times per day. The duration of treatment depends on the clinical picture of the disease, patientís health background and the therapeutic effect of the drug.
Use during pregnancy and lactation:
In women during pregnancy (especially, in case of I trimester), the decision on applying the drug is made only if the expected benefits outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. The appointment of the drug during pregnancy (first trimester and the last week) is allowed only under strict professional supervision. Theophylline is excreted in breast milk; therefore, itís use is not recommended during a breast-feeding period. If the application of the drug in lactating women is absolutely required, the breast-feeding should be ceased for the period of treatment.
The list of contraindications includes the following items: individual intolerance (including the manifestations of hypersensitivity), epilepsy with increased convulsive readiness; gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer in the acute phase; glaucoma; acute myocardial infarction and hyperthyroidism.
