Robaxin (Methocarbamol)
Description
Robaxin is the brand name of the generic drug methocarbamol. This drug is used in relaxing the muscles by blocking the pain sensations that are sent to the brain. Physical therapy and rest are combined in the treatment of the muscles with the use of Robaxin. Robaxin tablets are available in strengths of 500 mg and 750 mg. The Robaxin 500 mg tablet is light orange in color, round in shape, and is film-coated for oral administration. The 750 mg tablet is capsule shaped and orange in color. The 500 mg tablet is available in bottles of 100 tablets while the 750 mg tablet is available in bottles of 100 and 500 tablets.
How to use
Initially Robaxin 500 mg can be given three tablets a day. If it is 750 mg tablet then 2 might be recommended initially. The maximum dosage that is recommended during the initial treatment is 6 grams a day for the initial two or three days. Afterwards the dosage can be reduced to a maximum of 4 grams a day. For severe conditions you can go up to 8 grams a day. Always stick to the dosages recommended by your doctor. If you skip a dose then it is better to wait for the next dosage timing and follow that if the next dosage time is nearer. If you are going for some other treatment it is better to reveal to that doctor that you are taking Robaxin.
Precautions
Patients who are allergic to methocarbamol should not use Robaxin. It is important that you disclose information related to allergies to your doctor before you are prescribed Robaxin. Always consult your doctor before you take Robaxin. Overdose of Robaxin might be fatal. If you have any symptoms like nausea, seizure, drowsiness or blurred vision it is important that you get immediate medical attention. It is better to store Robaxin away from heat and moisture. If you are to drive or do any task that requires alertness, it is better not to do that when you are on Robaxin. Avoid alcohol when you take Robaxin.
