Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate)

Description

Seroquel which is also known chemically as quetiapine is used for the treatment of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder which is also known as manic-depression. Seroquel is very effective in reducing your mental problems, keeping you in touch with reality and stabilising your mood.

Recommendations

Seroquel can be taken directly by mouth or with food. It is advised to follow the directions written on the label. In case you feel uncomfortable taking it empty stomach, take it with food. The dosage of Seroquel should be taken in levels as prescribed and it should not be stopped without your doctor’s consultation. Also in case of children, special care is needed so consult your doctor or paediatrician. For patients over the age of 65, lower doses are suggested due to stronger reactions.

Precautions

Hyperglycemia i.e the problem of increased blood sugar has been reported in many patients who are treated with atypical antipsychotics including quetiapine. In case any symptoms of hyperglycemia like frequent urination, excessive thirst or hunger, weakness etc are seen consult your doctor immediately.
