Parkinson's disease is quite complicated central nervous system disorder, that affects both women and men with the same frequency. So far have not been found a tool that would be able to get rid a person from the disease completely. However, existing methods of treatment help patients to cope with the many manifestations of Parkinson's disease. Among the most popular drugs for the curing of annoying disorder is Sinemet.
Sinemet is based on such active substances, like carbidopa, MSD, aromatic amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor and levodopa - effective in patients with Parkinsonís disease.
How does Sinemet work?
Levodopa reduces Parkinson's disease symptoms, due to its conversion to dopamine in the brain with the help of decarboxylation. Carbidopa, in turn, canít cross blood-brain barrier and thus, prevents the extracerebral decarboxylation of levodopa, thereby increasing its amount in the brain and converts it into dopamine. The medication improves the overall therapeutic effect in comparison with levodopa. Sinemet effectively provides prolonged levodopa level in plasma at doses, that are about 80% lower, than the dose, required only in case of levodopa.
Indications to Sinemet use
Sinemet drug is prescribed by physicians for people with Parkinson's disease and syndrome. It is useful to reduce many disorder symptoms, especially such ones, as rigidity and bradykinesis.
Also, for the curing of tremor, dysphagia, sialorrhea and postural instability of the body, associated with Parkinson's disease and syndrome.
Due to decrease of some negative effects, caused by the drug levodopa, Sinemet drug provides adequate reducing of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
The pill is effective for Parkinsonís patients, who take vitamin supplements, containing pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6).
Besides, it was revealed that antiparkinsonian drug levodopa in some patients depresses and in some stimulates the sexual functions.
The drug is not recommended to be used in the case of secondary Parkinsonism, caused by the use of neuroleptics.
Dosage and recommendations of Sinemet healing
Patients, starting treatment with the drug Sinemet 25/250, should take an initial dose - half tablet once or twice a day. However, this may not provide the optimum amount of carbidopa, which is necessary for many patients. In that case, add 1/2 a pill every day or every other day, until you notice the optimal response to the drug.
Generally, reaction to Sinemet was observed on the first day and sometimes even the first dose. The full effect of the drug is achieved within seven days, while the drug levodopa shows its efficacy in weeks and months.
The maximum recommended dose - eight tablets per day. This is about 3mg/kg of carbidopa and 30mg of levodopa per patients kilogram weight, if he is 70kg.
