Suprax is a drug that is used in the prevention and treatment of infections that are caused by bacteria. In some patient there might be some drug resistant bacteria and these are effectively handled by Suprax. Suprax is available as an oral suspension with strength of 100 mg / 5 mL.
Suprax is used when there is an infection that is suspected to be caused by bacteria. Culture information is got if it is suspected that the infection is by bacteria then Suprax can be used.
For urethral and cervical infections that are not complicated and that are caused by suspected strains of bacteria the dosage recommended is 400 mg daily for adults. For children, the recommended dosage is 8 mg per kg weight of the child. This dosage can be split into two doses for every 12 hour.
Children who are older than 12 years should be treated like adults with regard to the dosage of Suprax. Similarly children with weight of over 50 kg should also be given dosage that are equivalent to that of the adults. Treatment for atleast 10 days should be given in the case of infections by S. pyogenes.
Even if the patient is suffering from some renal function, the dosage of Suprax can be continued. For patients who are under renal hemodialysis the dosage should be about 75% of the normal dosage if the creatinine clearance is between 21 and 60 mL/min. For above 60 mL/min of creatinine clearance normal dosage of Suprax can be given.
It is necessary that you call your doctor if you have serious side effects like watery diarrhea that might also contain blood traces. Fever, sore throat, peeling of skin, rashes in skin, and joint pain are also some of the serious side effects that might affect a person if they use Suprax. Watchout for other side effects like numbness, or tingy feeling, swelling of hands, face, and lips.
