Tylenol is the brand name for the generic drug acetaminophen. This drug is also sold in other brand names like Arthritis Caplet, Arthritis Geltab, Caplet, GoTabs and so on. This medication is used to reduce fever and pain. People with conditions like fevers, cold, backache, toothache, headache, arthritis and muscle aches can use this medication. Tylenol is available in the form of tablets, children’s solutions, and infant's concentrated solution.
For children above the age of 12 and for adults the recommended dosage of Tylenol is 650 to 1000 mg per dose. The dosage can be given for every 4 to 6 hours. For children under the age of 12 the dosage depends on the weight of the children. It is recommended to give 10 to 15 mg / kg of weight. For infants the drug is more concentrated than those for the children. It is advised to give this medicine only by using the dropper or the measuring cup that comes with the product. Tylenol is taken as and when required and most of the patients will not be on a dosage schedule.
Do not exceed 4000 mg per day in case of adults and children above the age of 12. In case of children below the age of 12 the dosage should not exceed 75 mg / kg of weight in a day. Patients who take alcohol daily should consult their doctor before they take Tylenol. Patients with liver disease should not take Tylenol. If the fever does not reduce even after taking Tylenol for about 3 days then you have to contact your doctor. In case of pain you will get relief in a week. If not contact your doctor. Skin rash, swelling, or any other symptom, if found, call your doctor immediately. Watch out for overdose symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sweating, and fatigue, and confusion, loss of appetite, dark urine, and stomach pain. If you experience any of these symptoms call your physician immediately.
