Uroxatral is the brand name for the generic drug alfuzosin Hcl. This drug is sold in the form of extended release tablet of strength 10 mg in bottles of 30 and 100 tablets. This tablet is in the form of three layers with two yellow layers surrounding one white layer. This tablet is used in the treatment of enlarged prostate making urinating easier.
The recommended dosage of Uroxatral is one dose of one tablet daily. Take this tablet immediately after you take your meals daily. Since this is an extended release tablet the medicine is released over time. Hence do not chew or crush this tablet while taking it. Swallow it as a whole. Do not take it in empty stomach as the absorption rate is slow on empty stomach. If you have missed a dose you can skip the dose if the time for the next dose is nearing.
Fatigue, dizziness, weal pulse, and feeling of fainting are some of the symptoms of over dose of Uroxatral. Watch for these symptoms and get immediate medical attention if needed.
A person suffering from liver disease should not use Uroxatral. If you are taking medicines like Nizoral, Norvir, or Sporanox then you should avoid Uroxatral. The medicine has the property to affect your thinking and your motor actions. Hence it is better not to take this medication if you are on tasks that require you to be alert. Uroxatral can also affect your pupils. Hence a person who has a scheduled eye surgery should inform the doctor about this medicine that you take. Persons suffering from kidney disease, coronary artery disease, chest pain, history allergic reactions to alfuzosin and those who take alpha blockers might need adjusted dosage of Uroxatral. Hence inform your doctor if you are having any of these conditions. Consult your doctor on the adverse reactions of Uroxatral before you take up this medicine.
