Yaz is the brand name of the medication and it is used as an oral contraceptive. A pack consists of 24 tablets and each of them contains 3 mg of drospirenone and 0.02 mg of ethinyl estradiol. Women who want to prevent pregnancy can take Yaz as an oral contraceptive. It is a highly effective method if used consistently and correctly. Yaz is also used for the premenstrual dysphoric disorder in women. It is also used in the treatment of acne vulgaris in women who are older than 14 years of age. Patients who wish to have oral contraceptive for controlling pregnancy can use this for treating acne vulgaris too.
Yaz comes with a pack of 24 pink color tablets and 4 inert white tablets. Each of these tablets should be taken each day and the interval should not be more than 24 hours in a menstrual cycle. The first day of the menstrual cycle would be start day for the regimen of these tablets. Or the starting day could be the first Sunday after the start of the menstrual cycle.
Taking Yaz has some serious adverse reactions in the users. Hypertension, cerebral hemorrhage, gallbladder disease, and liver tumors, are some of the adverse reactions that could occur if the user takes Yaz. This oral contraceptive also causes other side effects like vomiting, nausea, change in menstrual flow, breakthrough bleeding, tenderness or enlargement in breasts, change in weight and appetite. Migraine and allergic rashes are also some side effects that are seen in some users. Mood changes and depression are also seen in the women who use Yaz.
Women who smoke have increased risk of cardiovascular side effects when they use oral contraceptives. Women who are more than 35 years of age are those who are affected much. Moreover smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day increases the risks. Hence it is better not to smoke when the user take oral contraceptives. The blood pressure also increases when women take oral contraceptives. So women who are already having high blood pressure should not take Yaz.
