Zinc is a supplement that is available in the form of tablets, capsules, and extended release tablets. This supplement is used for treating zinc deficiency. Zinc is available in brand names like Galzin, Zinc 220, Orazinc 110, Orazinc 220, Zn Plus Protein, M2 Zinc 50, Zinc Chelated, and Prostavan. A sufficient quantity of supplement is necessary in our body for normal growth. When there is a deficiency in zinc through our regular diet there is a need to go for supplements. Deficiency in Zinc might lead to poor wound healing and tastelessness. The person’s ability to fight infections is also reduced when there is not sufficient zinc in our body. Night vision of the person is also very poor when there is a deficiency in zinc.
People who have Down’s syndrome, pancreas disease, skin disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, eating disorders, type 2 diabetes, alcoholism, prolonged trauma, continuing stress and chronic infections can be benefited with the use supplements.
How to use
Zinc is found in different foods that you consume regularly like beans, peas, seafood, red meats, whole grains and so on. Hence it is necessary that you consult your healthcare professional before you take zinc supplements. The dosage of zinc recommended for a person depends on their age, sex and their physical condition.
The normal recommended dosage supplements for children below the age of 3 years is 5 to 10 mg. Children in the age range of 4 to 10 can be given 10 mg daily. For adolescents and adults the recommended dosage is 15 mg for males and 12 mg for females. For females who are pregnant the recommended dosage is 15 mg and for breast-feeding women it is up to 19 mg. These dosages are for people in US. It might vary for people in other countries.

If you are allergic to these supplements do contact your doctor immediately. If you are already having some other deficiencies like copper deficiency, taking zinc supplements might worsen that condition. This supplement might interact with Amygdalin and Eltrombopag. So you have to disclose this to your healthcare professional before you take zinc supplements.
