Antibacterial drug which is mainly used to fight out infections like skin infections, ear infections, respiratory infections or sexually transmitted infections is known as Zithromax. It is related to erythromycin and is a macrolide antibiotic.
With FDA approval in 1991 Zithromax effectively kills bacteria like Mycobacterium avium, Hemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and many others. Basic task of this drug is to prevent the bacteria from growing. It is used to cure tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infection and bad throat. Children who are more susceptible to these infections get Zithromax as a remedial drug. Unusual property of staying in the body for longer time results in shorter courses for future infections.
Vital Information about Zithromax:
One should not be use this drug if allergic to any of the erythromycin category of medicines. The doctor should be informed in advance about the list of medicines already taken by the patient. You are not supposed to start this medicine without any prescription as it is an antibiotic. Time duration prescribed by the doctor should be well taken care of. Antacids along with Zithromax can result in poor efficiency of the drug. 2 hours before meals in the right time for intake of this drug.
It is in the form of tablets of 250, 500 and 600 mg. Suspension: 100mg/teaspoon, 200mg/teaspoon, 167mg/teaspoon or 1g/packet. Injection powder: 500mg.
Solutions of injections and suspension should be stored at a temperature of 5 to 30 degrees, whereas room temperature is appropriate for the storage of tablets.
Zithromax has the capability to fight with bacterial infections and shows effective results. It cures otitis Media (middle ear infection), laryngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. Sexually transmitted diseases like nongonococcal urethritis and cervicitis are also treated with this drug.
Intake of Zithromax should be empty stomach at least before 1 hour of meals or 2 hours after meals. One full glass of water should be taken with one tablet of the drug. If it disturbs or upsets your stomach take the medicine along with food. They do not help in treating any of the viral infections.
Adult dosage is higher than children and can vary from 500 to 2000 mg in one day. It is up to the doctor if he divides it in the whole day or asks to take single dose. Usually it is once a day which continues for five days in severe cases and three days in general for any infection. You should follow the pattern and dosage prescribed by the doctor.
Over dosage of Zithromax can result in discomfort related to stomach mainly diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and pain. You need to consult a doctor immediately if the dosage has exceeded to what was prescribed.
Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers:
Not much of research or studies done on this aspect which could support the intake of this drug during pregnancy. It should be only taken if advised by the doctor. No strong evidence to prove if breast milk secretes Zithromax.
It falls in the bunch of those medicines which do not have much side affects. Common problems like lose motions or diarrhea associated with stomach pain may occur. Few of the rare symptoms like nervousness or allergy could be a side affect of Zithromax.
