Zocor is a statin or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor used for lowering the amount of fatty substances and cholesterol of your blood in combination to a diet which is low in cholesterol and low in fat.
Zocor can also be used in some adolescent patients from 10-17 years of age who have cholesterol problems due to their genetics.
It also helps in preventing medical related problems caused due to cholesterol.
Zocor leads to a reduction in the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and a need to go through revascularization procedure in a patient who is at high risks of coronary events. It can be used as risk factor intervention in the patients who are at a very high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease because of hypercholesterolemia.
Zocor slows down the cholesterol production in a personís body.
Directions given by your doctor should be followed strictly and it should be consumed exactly as prescribed.
Zocor can be taken with food or even on empty stomach. It is advised to take it in the evening, unless your doctor has advised you to do something else. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
Continue taking Zocor even if you are feeling well. Most of the people who have high cholesterol level do not feel sick.

Remember not to miss any dose and try to take your dose at the same time every evening so that you do not forget to miss a dose.
Even if you have missed a dose, you can take your next dose at the scheduled time and continue as before. It is advised not to take more than one dose at a time in order to compensate for the dose that you have missed.
This medicine has to be stored at normal room temperature and away from moisture, light and heat.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have allergy to any particular medicine, if you are suffering from any kidney or liver related disease or you are pregnant or planning to conceive or you are breast feeding.
